Biotechnology and It’s Types
What is biotechnology?
Biotechnology is the branch of biology involving the use of living systems and organisms to create different products. In 1919, the term biotechnology was first used by Karl Ereky. Biotechnology is the use of microorganisms to produce different products.
Types of biotechnology:-
- Red biotechnology:- Red biotechnology is useful are in the fields of cancer research, veterinary, production of biochips, medicine, and so on. Red biotechnology is a process that utilizes microorganisms to improve health care. Red biotechnology includes producing vaccines and antibiotics, developing new drugs, molecular diagnostics techniques, and the development of genetic engineering to cure diseases.
- Green biotechnology:- Green biotechnology is refers to use of bacteria to facilitate the growth of plants. Green biotechnology is use of microorganisms to facilitate crop growth, producing fertile and resistant seeds, etc. Green biotechnology is also includes bioremediation, development of biofuels and fertilizers. Agricultural biotechnology has been used to improve nutritional content of a variety of crops. For example:- Golden rice rich in vitamin A.
All the plants and animals found in the environment. People depend on nature. Green biotechnology is the study of plants and animals. For example:- Insulin is extracted from the pancreas of abattoir animals.
White biotechnology: Nature provides us all the things. We wear clothes and fabrics from wool, cotton or silk.
White biotechnology refers to industrial biotechnology, which uses microorganisms and enzymes to manufacture goods for industry, such as biodegradable plastics, chemicals, development of biofuels, etc.
Yellow biotechnology: Yellow biotechnology is also called insect biotechnology. Insects are species dependent upon nature or plants for food. Yellow biotechnology refers to the use of biotechnology in food production.
Grey Biotechnology: Grey biotechnology refers to removing pollutants using microorganisms.
Blue Biotechnology: We collect many aquatic resources from the ocean, such as fish, shellfish, sponges, and petroleum reserves. Biotechnology refers to biology-based technology. Many things like plastics, food, beverages, fabrics, medicine, and personal care products are derived from living organisms. Without water, we do not live. Over 70 percent of Earth’s surface area is covered by the ocean. Blue biotechnology is also known as marine or aquatic biotechnology.
Gold biotechnology: Gold biotechnology covers fields like bioinformatics, nanotechnology, and computational biology.
